As the COVID-19 pandemic hit New Mexico and Governor Lujan Grisham declared a public health emergency, we at the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center knew we had to maintain our clinical operations to assure that our patients and all New Mexicans could continue to access world-class cancer care — right here, in our home state, surrounded by their families and friends who love and support them.​

Our Innovative Research

Cancer research has benefits beyond just cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. Our cancer scientists are contributing their expertise to the battle against COVID-19. In this video, David Peabody, PhD, and Bryce Chackerian, PhD, discuss their research, recently funded by the National Cancer Institute, to develop a vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.

Cleaning During COVID-19

Stewart Livsie, UNMCCC Facilities Manager, has had to make changes to the facility cleaning protocols to assure a safe environment. In this video, Mr. Livsie describes how the UNM Cancer Center is protecting patients and providers from COVID-19.
