Acclaimed Journalist, Author and Cancer Survivor Jamie Reno Joins CancerConnect

Ketchum/Sun Valley, ID – CancerConnect, America’s leading social network for cancer patients and their loved ones, today proudly announced the addition of a new member to its growing team. Jamie Reno, the longtime Newsweek correspondent and three-time survivor of Stage IV cancer, has joined the online network as a consultant, feature writer and patient advocate.

Reno, an award-winning reporter and author of three acclaimed and popular books on cancer survival, is thrilled to be a part of CancerConnect.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for me to reach out to the nationwide cancer community and have a meaningful dialogue about issues important to all of us,” says Reno, who was told when he was first diagnosed with Stage VI non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma cancer that he would live three years. That was 17 years ago. Reno continues to beat the odds and inspire cancer patients worldwide.

Charles H. Weaver, MD and CEO of OMNI Health Media, which developed CancerConnect, is a former cancer researcher and pioneer of Internet-based cancer education. Dr. Weaver says, of Reno’s hiring, “We are thrilled to welcome Jamie to CancerConnect. We know that his passion for advocacy, together with his talent as a writer and his personal experience as a survivor, will make him an invaluable addition to our team and to the entire CancerConnect community of survivors, caregivers, and professionals.”

Reno’s role at CancerConnect will include writing inspirational and informative stories, covering breaking news as well as survivor stories, and contributing in-depth features related to  new and existing cancer treatments. His writing will be seen across all CancerConnect platforms.

Reno, who has written extensively about cancer for Newsweek and his national news blog, The Reno Dispatch, has covered the last six presidential elections, 9/11, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and much more. In addition to Newsweek, he has also written for The New York Times, Sports Illustrated, Rolling Stone, The Daily Beast, ESPN, People, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today and The Los Angeles Times.

Reno was immediately attracted to the diverse content and the support of individuals battling cancer that CancerConnect offers. “This community is really making a positive difference in the lives of cancer patients and those who love them,” Reno says.

CancerConnect, which has more than 50,000 patients in its network, is used by Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, Roswell Park Cancer Inst., Dana Farber, The Ohio State James Cancer Inst., the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and other leading centers. It is licensed to hospitals and cancer clinics to enhance their Web sites, improve search engine optimization (SEO), and allow cancer patients to be part of a social community without leaving the clinic.
