UNM Cancer Center Research

UNM Cancer Center scientists are working diligently every day to discover the causes and cures for cancer. As the state’s only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center and the Official Cancer Center of the State of New Mexico, the UNM Cancer Center is committed to fighting cancer on all fronts. Our researchers have been recruited from outstanding institutions across the nation, including Harvard University, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and are supported by more than $51 million in federal and private funding every year.

Reaching Out
New Mexico is rich with scientific and technological capabilities. Our researchers have taken advantage of the nearby resources by combining regional scientific strengths into our programs. UNM Cancer Center investigators regularly collaborate with scientists from Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute and New Mexico State University. These partnerships are providing important insights and helping to unlock some of cancers most challenging questions.

Translating Knowledge
More than 35 percent of patients treated at the UNM Cancer Center participate in cancer clinical trials, which include prevention, screening, diagnosis and treatment trials. Nearly twenty percent of patients enroll in therapeutic studies. Click here to learn about our clinical trials
