Personal Statement

I am an Associate Professor of Hematology/Oncology at the University of New Mexico Cancer Center, an NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center ( UNMCCC) where I currently hold both clinical and administrative functions. As a clinician, my areas of research interest are breast cancer, barriers to health care and clinical trial accruals and symptom control. My current practice is almost exclusively devoted to breast cancer. I serve as a local PI for multiple NCI cooperative group, pharmaceutical and investigator initiated trials. In 2015, I have been selected as an NCI Steering Committee member for Symptom Control and Quality of Life. I am also a member of the Breast and Symptom Control Committees of the NCI cooperative group ALLIANCE and a member of the Board of Directors.

On the administrative side, I am currently the medical director of the outpatient hematology/ oncology clinics and am directly involved in midlevel staff recruitment, leadership training and implementation of quality control measures. I am also the chair of the Cancer Committee at the UNMCCC, In these capacities, I am directly involved in the cancer center-wide implementation and completion of standards of the Commission on Cancer.
