Human papillomavirus causes several kinds of cancers. It causes almost all cancers of the cervix and also causes cancers of the mouth, throat and anus. Preventing HPV-related cancers worldwide is possible, though.
Cosette Wheeler, PhD, and her colleagues recently published a paper describing a strategy to make the HPV vaccine available to almost anyone, anywhere, using the local resources available. Their paper was distributed by the American Society of Clinical Oncology at its Annual Meeting and published in ASCO Daily Online.
Dr. Wheeler talks to Ellen Berkowitz on KSFR-FM about HPV, the HPV vaccine and preventing HPV-related cancers.
