Two UNM Cancer Center Caregivers Nominated for 2012 People’s Caring Awards

Nominees honored for outstanding service to patients

The University of New Mexico Cancer Center is pleased to announce the nominations of Mohammad Houman Fekrazad, MD, Assistant Professor of Hematology/Oncology, and Jayne Holmes, MA, Breast Oncology Specialty Coordinator, for 2012 People’s Caring Awards. The People’s Caring Awards are bestowed annually, honoring individuals and groups in seven different categories for their excellent work in supporting and empowering both cancer patients and their families. Dr. Fekrazad is a medical oncologist and Ms. Holmes is a medical assistant.

The awards are sponsored by People Living Through Cancer, an Albuquerque non-profit organization dedicated to providing outreach to cancer patients and their families through workshops, support groups and education. Nominations are submitted by patients, families and others who feel they have received exceptional support, empathy or respect during the cancer care process. Awards will be announced at the 18th annual People’s Caring Awards reception on February 4, 2012, from 11am-2pm at Hotel Albuquerque.
