Losing his mother to cancer at the young age of 15 exposed Schwartz to the difficulties cancer. “When I completed my cardiothoracic training at NYU, I knew that I wanted devote my career to helping patients battle cancer and therefore spent an additional year in training, focusing on Thoracic Oncology at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital in
Boston,” said Schwartz.
Schwartz says he chose to practice at the UNM Cancer Center for several reasons. “I looked for an opportunity to join a growing medical center with a commitment to treating cancer patients. The University of New Mexico was just that place. It is so exciting to be part of a nationally recognized and NCI designated cancer center,” Schwartz said. “The
UNM Cancer Center has brought together some of the brightest minds to develop treatment and research protocols for the people of New Mexico. We have assembled a tremendous team of physicians, researchers and care clinicians here at UNM, and this is the reason I would tell anyone with cancer to come to UNM to be treated.”
