Ellen Beswick, PhD
Ellen Bewick, PhD, has discovered how blocking a protein in cancer tumors of the colon and rectum can help to fight them. The protein is called G-CSF, and blocking it fights tumors on two fronts: it keeps tumor cells from growing and multiplying; and it draws more immune cells into the tumor. The National Cancer Institute awarded Dr. Beswick a $1.7 million grant to study the protein and possibly a drug that blocks it.
