UNM Cancer Center Earns Comprehensive Designation from NCI

By msequeira

The University of New Mexico Cancer Center has been awarded the highest federal designation for cancer centers. Comprehensive designation conferred by the National Cancer Institute, has been awarded to only 45 other cancer centers in the country and recognizes:

  • the exceptional cancer care the center delivers for cancer diagnosis and treatment;
  • the access to NCI- and industry-sponsored clinical trials the center provides to its community (New Mexico, in the case of the UNM CCC);
  • the outstanding cancer research to find the causes, cure and new diagnostics and treatments for cancer and to bring these discoveries to patients; and,
  • the education, training and mentoring of the next generation of cancer healthcare professionals: doctors, nurses, pharmacists and others.

Read the press release, the Albuquerque Journal front page story and the story in the Daily Lobo. Also watch KOB-TV's Eddie Garcia, KRQE-TV's Haley Rush and KOAT-TV's Sasha Lenninger talk about this new designation, listen to Dr. Willman's interview with Mike Jaxson, KSVP-AM, and watch the interview with Adam Attichson.
