Leukemia, Lymphoma and Myeloma Team

The Hematologic Cancers Team at UNM Cancer Center treats blood disorders. Blood disorders include leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and benign (non-cancerous) blood diseases. The UNM Cancer Center hematological program has been designated by the MDS Foundation as a Center of Excellence.

The only program in New Mexico

The Bone Marrow Transplant Program at UNM is the only one in New Mexico to meet the standard of excellence required for FACT Accreditation.

What Each Team Member Offers

Medical Oncologists/Hematologists

Specialists who use chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy and cellular therapy to treat blood diseases, including leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and benign blood disorders. Our team has worked closely with cancer scientists to pioneer genomic methods for personalized medicine.

Hematopathologists

Specialize in the diagnosis and characterization of malignant and benign diseases of the blood, lymphatic system and bone marrow. Genomic sequencing is one example of new technology enabling personalized medical therapies.

Radiation Oncologists

Specialists who treat blood disorders with radiation therapy. The radiation can be targeted to the whole body or highly targeted to specific body parts. Radiation kills cancer cells and can be used alone or as part of your overall treatment.

Working with an oncology specialist, these certified nurse specialists and certified physician assistants take medical histories, perform examinations prescribe treatments, and perform medical procedures.
